All In London Review

Ideal as a meeting point if you were spending the evening in Putney

Review Image
After a late afternoon meeting with one of my clients in Putney, I offered to take them for a Christmas drink so we strolled along the Upper Richmond Road from Putney Hill towards East Putney tube station.

My colleague told me that the place had undergone a recent refurbishment and reopened in May 2014 under new management.

We arrived early in the evening (around 6pm) and the place was empty and the staff were in the rear still being briefed by the chef on the evening’s menu. So I guess it would be unfair of me to comment on the somewhat slow table service at the wine bar tables at the front.

But the décor is superb. It’s more like a spacious and stylish French restaurant than an Italian establishment. Painted brick walls, dark wood furniture and stunning glass ceiling lighting – traditional yet really up to the minute tasteful design. It’s a surprising place to find in Putney.

The wine (Falanghina £7)) was really good and we managed two glasses each in a relatively short space of time. Tasty free nibbles (including tortilla chunks) were provided.

It started to fill up as we left and I can imagine it is a popular place with the local workers and residents. Ideal as a meeting point if you were spending the evening in Putney.

And I vowed to return to check out the restaurant sometime soon – the Italian menu options covered both traditional favourites and what appeared to be some temptingly sophisticated more modern offerings with main courses from £16.

There’s a lovely wooden terrace on the front – no doubt where the smokers hang out – and the furniture is stylish. Sadly, the main road doesn’t offer much of a view and is pretty busy.

But if you are in the area I would urge you to visit the bar as it’s so lovely.
