Nonclassical presents a night of music by Tansy Davies, the winner of the 2016 British Composer Award for her Opera Between Worlds. Her music jolts and pulses. Listening to it is a bit like being on a train that can bump suddenly from racing velocity to slowness, and that can somehow rattle along in a somewhat dislocated fashion at several different speeds at the same time. Meanwhile, the view out of the window will be changing.
Nonclassical released Tansy Davies' debut album, Troubairitz, in 2011.
Programme:
Troubairitz for voice, percussion and flute
Greenhouses for voice, Indian harmonium and flute
This Love/Destroying Beauty/Static for voice and piano
Song of Pure Nothingness for Indian harmonium and voice
Plus DJ sets by BBC Radio 3 Late Junction presenter Nick Luscombe.
Performers:
Vollen united (feat. Poul Høxbro):
Elisabeth Holmertz - vocal
Kenneth Karlsson - piano, Indian harmonium
Poul Høxbro - low whistle, percussion
'… a livewire impossible to pigeonhole…' (The Times) // 'This conflict between the human and the natural, the bodily and the geological – between Prince and Xenakis – is at the heart of her music.' (The Guardian)
Tansy Davies' music has been performed by many prestigious ensembles including London Sinfonietta, the City of London Sinfonia and English National Opera, and has also been performed at the BBC Proms.
