Pioneering bloke-folk trio FAUSTUS continue touring the UK this Spring. Faustus is a well established name in the English folk scene made up of three of the best-known and talented English folk musicians – Paul Sartin (Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast), Benji Kirkpatrick (Bellowhead, Seth Lakeman Band), and Saul Rose (Waterson: Carthy, Whapeazel, War Horse).
Following the 2017 successful release of their EP ‘Slaves’, hot on the heels of their acclaimed album ‘Death & Other Animals’ (2016),which received the 2017 German Critics Award (Schallplatenkritik Bestenliste) in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter/World Music Category, a great achievement that stood them in good stead for their maiden German tour last September. Prior to the March tour Benji, Paul and Saul will again form the core band in The Transports (Guardian *****), the revival and reworking of Peter Bellamy’s ballad opera which proved a sensation in 2017 and played to full houses across the country. Shortly after the tour, they will debut at the National Folk Festival in Australia!
Meanwhile back in the UK, for the last few months Faustus have been sifting through publications and journals of the 19th Century Lancashire Cotton Famine period, as part of a project based at the University of Exeter to archive, preserve, and rehabilitate the poetry of this distressing chapter of working-class history. Having set some of the texts to new music, Faustus are delighted to announce that the first track, ‘Cotton Lords’, will be debuted on their March tour, and is now available to listen to and more will released over the year. faustusband.com
