Closed Doors fuses together spoken word, music and visual art to tell the stories of several residents of a troubled and divided urban neighbourhood. Their stories come to life through the collaborative force of award-winning musicians Lauren Gilmour and Audrey Tait (Novasound) and playwright Belle Jones with visuals designed by Kim Campbell.

An unknown police incident forces three very different matriarchs to take shelter together with nothing to do but speculate as to what’s happening. Their prejudices and preconceptions about one another quickly surface and while they are initially blinded by their differences, they soon discover where their similarities lie.

With a poetic narrative set against the backdrop of an exhilarating live score which refuses to recognise genre boundaries, Closed Doors tackles questions of identity, heritage, community and isolation, with rigour and heart.
