King’s Cross is pleased to announce the return of the electrifying live music series Cubitt Sessions this year from Wednesday 25th July – Sunday 12th August, in Lewis Cubitt Square. The programme features a diverse selection of artists presented in collaboration with local
partners Tête à Tête, The Roundhouse, Platoon, Kings Place, and classical music curator Anthony
Whitworth-Jones.
The series kicks off with a special early performance from King’s Cross residents Aurora Orchestra, a pop-up rendition of Mozart’s 40th symphony under the West Handyside Canopy, performed from memory. The Cubitt Sessions span a wide range of global music genres, including a specially curated series of classical delights featuring the superb London Brass, a world-class classical recital from Daniel Lebhardt, and an evening courtesy of young singers from English National Opera. The programme also features music from Thomas Gould who fuses classical and jazz techniques, the folk artist Saachi Sen, the prize-winning traditional Balkans and Turkish band She’Koyokh, as well as a more contemporary offering of music from the West End.
King’s Cross favourite, opera company Tête à Tête, return with a series of modern shows selected by Bill Bankes-Jones. These include Bishi’s ‘The Good Immigrant’ on the evening of 26th July, a personal reflection on the life experiences as a British-Bengali daughter of immigrants, adopted by London’s community of alternative queer night life.
Other highlights include ‘An Evening of Songs from the Shows’ on 3rd August, where West End stars Daniel Boys (Avenue Q), Jon Robyns (Les Miserables), Lauren Samuels (Grease) and Anna O’Byrne (Phantom) will compile the best loved songs from the stage into one show. In addition, there will be regular Family Weekends celebrating street culture and the talents of Project_Vee and Acrojou. On Sun 12th August, Acrojou performs Frantic and The Wheel House, providing acrobatic extravaganzas, with a fusion of world, jazz and classical with African and Middle Eastern rhythms by Celloman.
“Cubitt Sessions grows as a festival each year, and I am thrilled to be involved in the programming for this fourth season,” says curator Anthony Whitworth-Jones. “King’s Cross has become a thriving urban centre with so much on offer to suit all tastes, and these concerts are designed to appeal to a wide cross section of society, to the young at heart of all ages.”
