Discover the diversity of Roman burials in Londinium, from a 14-year old Roman girl to the remains of a female gladiator, as we take in the area where the 2.5 ton Southwark sarcophagus was unearthed in 2017.

Londinium mortuum is a series of walks that will explore the Roman cemeteries that sat just outside the walls of Londinium. Hear about some of the people that lived, and died, in Roman London – some pagan, some Christian and some decapitated! Along the way, learn about Roman funeral and burial practices, the relationship between the living and the dead, grave goods, inhumations and cremations, and archaeological excavations and finds.

This series is devised by London Town Tours and the Museum of London. Meeting point: Borough Underground Station.
