All In London Review

Contemporary yet classic, it sticks to a well-worn winning formula

Review Image
When it comes to shopping, Lamb’s Conduit Street is a destination of some repute. It isn’t as well known for its pubs but if you’re looking for something with a little more action than The Lamb (a great pub in its own right) then The Perseverance is good enough. Having taken on the running of this Bloomsbury pub in 2007, the current proprietors have carved out a nice little niche for themselves in the area. Based on the traditional central London pubs of old but updated with a modern interior, it sticks to a simple formula.

At The Perseverance you’ll find plenty of space, floral wallpaper on dark green tones, seating everywhere and some fine red leather buttoned-benches to finish the look. Lambs Conduit Street is a location where you can really feel the seasons. In the summer the streets are busy and people use pubs like The Perseverance as a base for early evening drinking. In the winter, especially around Christmas, you’ll find parties wrapped up inside the large space, with big groups each dominating their own areas. I’ve been to three separate birthdays and Christmas meals at this pub and with all the space and relaxed atmosphere it’s easy to see why it’s a popular venue.

The staff are friendly in the way that they should be when the place is family run and the selection of food and drink, although perhaps not worthy of attracting you here, certainly wouldn’t frighten you off. Classic pub dishes of fish and chips, pies and steak are reasonably priced for Central London at around £11.00 a meal and there are also sandwiches and light bites. On draught the standout beer is the excellent Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (a rarity to find on draught) as well as the Konig Ludwig weissbier, Blue moon and Kozel (a Czech lager). The Perseverance has a great location on one of the hippest streets in Central London. Come to Lamb’s Conduit Street for the shopping and then duck in here for the evening.

I only really visit this pub at Christmas. It has that wintery vibe to it that makes you want to get cosy in a corner and start ordering Baileys. Or maybe thats just me.

It's off the beaten track, which means space is usually available making it a good place to meet big groups. The manager also once chased me down the road to give me something I'd dropped from my wallet - good guy!
