Purbanat CIC presents Brick Lane 78
English | 75 minutes

Altab Ali was a Bangladeshi garment worker who was murdered by three teenagers on 4 May 1978 in a racist attack. It triggered the mass mobilisation of the local Bengali community. This was a defining moment for British-Bangladeshis who for the first time, stood up to defend their identity, rights and dignity against the propaganda and activities of the far right. With the current new wave of white supremacy and aggression not only in UK, but across Europe and on the other side of the Atlantic, this moment in 78 is still relevant as this legacy continues with stories of defiance and the struggle against oppression and intolerance.

This is a fictional story, based on true events.
