Augmented reality artists, Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot, will be making an appearance in Covent Garden next weekend to commemorate the centenary of Armistice Day.

Art fans will be able to meet the duo at Castle Fine Art on New Row on Saturday 10th November between 1pm and 4pm, as they unveil the final instalment of their collection of poignant paintings, The Danger Tree.

The Danger Tree tells an immersive story of the soldiers who fought and fell in the Great War between 1914 and 1918, and was created as a tribute to the Newfoundland Regiment which, under orders from British Command, used a tree halfway into No Man’s Land to assemble. The German artillery caught on, leading to many casualties, and the tree later became known as The Danger Tree.

Scarlett Raven’s collaboration with Marc Marot and use of the apps, Blippar and Artivive, led her to be the first oil painter in the UK to delve into the world of augmented reality. Whilst her paintings appear conventional at a first glance, technology allows the viewer to unlock the creative journey of each painting with their smartphone, stripping away the countless layers of paint and revealing the deeply personal process beneath every piece through poetry, animation and music.

Scarlett Raven said: “The Danger Tree was designed to celebrate the brave soldiers who fought and died for our country, and I couldn’t be more proud to showcase the collection for a final time as we approach Armistice Day.”

Jon Stokes, gallery manager at Castle Fine Art, Covent Garden, said: ‘The Danger Tree has touched the hearts and minds of thousands of people to date, and it is precisely this that we celebrate.

“The methods that have gone into the creations are astounding, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors to the gallery to meet the artists themselves as we turn the last page of the collection.’’
