To open the 10th London A Cappella Festival, we are thrilled to present a new collaboration between internationally acclaimed composer and singer Laura Mvula and Europe’s finest female a cappella quintet Black Voices, in a programme celebrating iconic female artists including Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin - not to mention Laura’s own compositions and arrangements.

Laura Mvula is a household name, known for her inventive, atmospheric mix of R&B, jazz, classical, and pop which fuses orchestral soul with velvet harmonies and emotional vocals.

For over twenty-five years, Black Voices have captivated audiences around the world with their arrangement of spirituals, jazz, gospel, pop, reggae and folk songs, as well as a fusion of contemporary and classical styles. Directed by Carol Pemberton MBE, they’ve developed a unique repertoire and have performed with legends including Nina Simone, Miriam Makeba, Ray Charles, Hugh Masekela, and Take 6.
