This panel discussion is a part of a three week program of Euston Town's MAKE SPACE - a project creatively making use of available space in the area to uplift the trading environment, invite a new audience to explore Euston and bring a cultural event to people living and working here. This program Hope for Tomorrow uses exhibitions, panel discussions and workshops to explore contemporary issues, delving in to the exciting projects taking place and discussing new ideas to help society adapt to and address these challenges.
It’s not possible to work, visit or live in Euston without being aware of matter of homelessness, and how it is intensifying within the context of what we now call the housing crisis. 7,500 people currently sleep rough in London, where the most regular cause of homelessness is the end of a shorthold tenancy.
We’ve invited our chosen panelists to give us an insight to their experiences and work in this area. We’ll hear from experts about the reality of living on the streets, and the policies they want changed, the projects they want to see funded. We’ll have a chance to understand more about the ‘Bystander Effect’, and about the value of art and creativity for people who are experiencing difficult circumstances, and hear about innovative projects that use existing infrastructure.
We’ll round off the discussion with a summary of these ideas and perspectives, hearing back from a local Councillor on the viability of implementing these projects – either as policy or as a trial in the context of Alt.Cmd (innovation district).
