Acclaimed cityscape artist, Paul Kenton, will be appearing in Covent Garden next week to mark the final leg of his highly anticipated exhibition, London/New York.

Having commenced with an opening show at Chase Contemporary gallery in New York earlier this month, the exhibition will conclude at Castle Fine Art on New Row on Thursday 21st March, between 6pm and 8pm.

Art fans will have the opportunity to meet Kenton and learn about the inspirations and techniques behind his latest works, which capture two of the most iconic cities in the world.

Renowned for his striking cityscapes, Kenton takes inspiration from fast-paced city-living across the world for his works. The artist aims to capture the movement in a city, conveying a constant motion with blurred colour, dripped lines and captivating light.

The paint on metal method Kenton has become known for was born when a canvas failed to fit onto an easel that he had built, resulting in him reaching for leftover sheet aluminium and applying oil paint to that instead. Delighted with the result and the way the oils took to the metal, the artist began refining his brushstrokes and reviewed the tools he was using to discover how the new medium could be adapted to his style of work.

Speaking ahead of his appearance in Covent Garden, Paul Kenton said: “I think I have been painting London for 30 years or more. I love South Bank, you’ve got so many interesting iconic buildings all the way along the river and, as I like to include water in my paintings, it’s the perfect combination of both water and landmarks.

“With that said, it’s not the location that entices my eye, per se, but the way the light reacts on a whole spectrum of surfaces, that is the city to me.”

Jon Stokes, gallery manager at Castle Fine Art, Covent Garden, said: “Paul captures the essence and personality of two of the world’s most iconic cities in his latest collection, painting them as you’ve never seen them before.

“His unique loose style of painting, using drips and bold brush strokes, portrays the hustle and bustle moving around these big cities and can almost transport you there. We look forward to welcoming guests to the gallery to meet the artist and experience the works for themselves.”
