The famous ‘Virgin Queen’, Elizabeth I’s writings are an often overlooked aspect of her character, but as both princess and reigning monarch she produced poems, speeches, prayers and translations of religious and classical works that demonstrated the depth of her literary and linguistic skills.
The National Archives holds several of Elizabeth’s works, including translations of Boethius, Horace and Plutarch.
Dr Katy Mair will explore the cultural significance of her writings, and shine a light on her personal creativity, with an accompanying document display.
