Matcha and Beyond offers an alternative to the standardised coffee shop chains, offering premium quality matcha beverages, matcha treats and goes beyond the matcha by offering speciality coffee and healthy bites. True to the Founder’s belief and background as a nutritional therapist, no compromise will be made on quality, health and taste.

Apart from the matcha which is sourced directly from Japan, the other main ingredients will come from London based suppliers that focus on the best produce and products. Sweet and savoury baked goods will be made daily on site. The menu will reflect Matcha and Beyond's ethos and offer signature matcha treats, coffee shop favourites, as well as gluten free, dairy free and vegan options. The use of sugar is deliberately limited and it is up to our customers to sweeten their drink or food, if they’d like to.

A dose of green goodness you won’t regret

Review Image
The King’s Road has no shortage of dining options, but if you find yourself in SW3 with a hunger to sate and a taste for trying something new, head to Matcha & Beyond for a dose of green goodness you won’t regret.

Created by Olivia Nottin, a nutritional therapist and a French certified Natural Chef, Matcha and Beyond opened in autumn 2018 to offer the discerning diners of Chelsea a coffee shop with a difference, offering premium beverages and treats fortified with a dose of the green stuff. Olivia is seriously passionate about matcha and incredibly clued up on what makes the best the best (FYI, her comes from the Uji region in the southern outskirts of Kyoto), knowledge that’s reflected in her menu. There is even a choice of two grades of matcha available; one exceptionally high grade for ceremonial matcha shots and a premium drinking grade for any milk-based drinks. No, I had no idea either…

The food is exceptional. Olivia works to develop new recipes regularly, rotating the menu and ditching the dishes that just don’t work. The bakery counter features the likes of green velvet cake, matcha and white chocolate cookies (beyond delicious when still warm and dipped in your matcha latte… just saying…), spelt coconut and matcha bread and matcha a yuzu granola bars, with many low sugar, gluten free and vegan options. The banana bread is divine with a blob of coconut yoghurt to accompany it and at weekends you can also find their signature matcha and chocolate swirl brioche babka and French toasts on the menu.

I indulged in a Morning Bowl from the breakfast bar, though indulged seems the wrong word when it’s actually a bowl full of goodness. Something of a pick and mix, I chose the crunchy baked matcha granola, with stewed apple and coconut yoghurt, sprinkled with coconut flakes, chia seeds, crunchy bee pollen and almond butter. Wholesome, nutritious and oh so delicious; I’m not going to lie, I’ve recreated it (with varying levels of success) several times at home since. For those with a more savoury tooth, you can also find the likes of yuzu smashed avocado on toast and poached eggs on the menu, but my breakfast bowl comes highly recommended.

Admittedly I’ve not been a fan of matcha before but clearly I’ve been taking it wrong. Matcha & Beyond’s matcha latte was unlike any I’ve tried before (less pond, more health-kick) and it’s certainly one I’ll be going back for.
