All In London Review

The best vegan brunch I’ve ever had in London!

Review Image
You know a meal has been a success when it’s hailed as ‘the best vegan brunch I’ve ever had in London’; high praise indeed and certainly a comment that’s not be taken lightly.

This new Soho eatery opened at the tail end of last year, a slip of a space nestled on Greek Street, serving pan-Asian tapas with inventive flavour combinations that are an assault on the senses. I visited for a work dinner as soon as it opened and was wowed by the food, particularly the zebra tataki and grilled kangaroo steak; I was also secretly thrilled my colleagues chickened out of trying either as I wholeheartedly devoured both in mere moments. Having recently launched a weekend brunch however, I crossed the threshold for a second time to see whether their mid-morning menu lived up to expectations. I’m sure you can work out the answer for yourselves.

My one gripe is the music, just a *little* too Ibiza beach restaurant dance party for my liking, particularly on a Sunday morning, though given the food is so completely excellent I’ll forgive them their bad taste in that area.

The menu is simple; four large plates, four bowls and three raw options, three bakery treats. All bar the latter feature vegan options, which apparently is fairly surprising. The dish that received such praise was the veggie fry up, encompassing avocado, a fantastic sweet potato toast, tahini & date molasses, kale, quinoa fritters, cashew nut cheese and tomato. Miss Vegan sitting next to me was completely floored by the sheer taste of it; exclaiming on several occasions throughout her meal on how vibrant it was and how many vegan friends she had who would completely love it.

My dish may not have been vegan but it sure as hell was just as delicious. It was the perfect amalgamation of flavours, though said flavours seemed more Middle Eastern than asian. It comprised a gin spiced lamb bacon, with a sake cured egg, overnight tomatoes, a completely sublime rose water labneh (which I would smear on every morsel I eat from now and never get bored), smoked aubergine puree, home made pita bread and grape molasses, with a sprinkling of pomegranate for good measure. I can’t even describe how much I enjoyed it; sweet but sharp, some flavours so delicate and some and complete sucked punch to the mouth, but every bite was with absolute delicious joy.

Gamma Gamma’s dinner was superb, and their cocktail list is not to be taken lightly, but I think their brunch even pips that to the post when it comes to perfect meals.
