The Hillgate serves traditional pub food and has a strong sense of identity with a following of loyal locals. Its quietly tucked away position, behind Notting Hill Gate, gives a false impression of this lively public house. Pavement seating is also available.

Used to be an amazing pub, very welcoming.

Now however it would seem has gone the unfortunate way of the yuppy gastro pub (mainly due to the new manager).

Let's hope it goes back to being a nive friendly local pub to have a drink in rather than a restaurant with a bar attached.

I have heard the Hillgate has changed hands in terms of ownership over the last 2 months & along with a new company behind it they have extended that to a New manager as well. I used to avoid the hillgate as it's reputation was not the best around. I am really pleased I gave the hillgate another go, it's starting to feel like a real pub again & a new chef has introduced some great new dishes on the menu that are far from the deep fried rubbish from the past, The hillgate has always been a good place to watch the footie or the rubgy, cricket etc & long may it continue. It seems to be working progress at the pub but progress nevertheless. I can't wait to go back.

The Hillgate is a really friendly, local pub in the heart of Notting Hill. Popular with locals it attracts a mixed crowd; the younger drinkers can be found outside on warm summer evenings, while the older generations sip pints at the bar. With two large screens showing sport often, and food served all day, its a perfect place to reside in cold weather or for a drink before going on to somewhere else. Completely lacking in pretentions, the presence of a large black dog and friendly bar staff give the pub a country, neighbourhood feel.
