The University of East London was formed in 1992 as an amalgamation of the West Ham Technical Institute, The South-East Essex Technical College and the North East London Polytechnic. In 1892, shortly after the formation and recognition of the borough of West Ham, the first incarnation of the University of East London was built. This was sadly burnt to the ground that same year. The rebuild became the West Ham Technical Institute. During the 1930's the Essex County Council built the other two components of today's University of East London in response to increasing population and the localities inabilities to educate them. The University of East London is centrally located and easily accessible via the London Underground system. The institute is made of three campuses- Barking, the Docklands and Stratford. Lawyer Imran Khan and professional footballer Trevor Brooking both attended the University of East London.
