The University of Greenwich was established in1890, then named the Woolwich Polytechnic. The University is made up of four campuses. Avery Hill Campus is set in 86 acres of parkland in South East London. Languages, Education, Architecture and Healthcare are taught at this campus. The Maritime Greenwich Campus is set in and around the around the Old Royal Naval College designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The Cutty Sark and other attractions of the Thames are found at the Maritime Campus. Some 2,000 of the students studying at Greenwich, study on the Medway Campus. Among the Edwardian buildings there is evidence of the University's former life as a Royal Naval Barracks and the former home of HMS Pembrook. The Kings Hill Institute is the hub of activity for Greenwich University- the external face of the institution and home to many of the more senior pursuits. Because of it diverse and extensive facilities the University of Greenwich attracts students from more than 80 different countries. The University regularly makes over £2 million per year through consultancy and external interests.
