Laban Theatre is part of the Laban college and centre for contemporary dance in Deptford, south-east London.
As well as the theatre, the centre contains dance studios, a dance health suite, a Pilates studio, a library and café. Founded by dancer, choreographer and dance/movement theoretician Rudolf Laban, the school was originally based in Manchester. In 1985 it moved to Addlestone in Surrey and in 1995 was renamed Laban Centre for Movement and Dance and moved to New Cross in London.

In 2002 it was renamed Laban Centre London and moved to its current Deptford home. In 2005, Laban merged with Trinity College of Music forming the UK’s first conservatoire for music.

The Laban building which was designed by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron won the Stirling Prize for Architecture in 2003.

The theatre (called Bonnie Bird) with its 300 seats is a unique, small to middle-scale venue specifically designed for contemporary dance. At night, the walls of the theatre become transparent so it can be seen from the outside It can also be hired for a variety of events, from smaller meetings and conferences to bigger ones such as launches and evening receptions.
