The food here is good. But then it ought to be – prices are almost twice those of similar cafes in an area of London that’s not particularly cheap. But the service is pure Fawlty Towers. I’m eating lunch, and I’m watching two waitresses punishing customers who are sitting in the “wrong” place by taking their chairs away. (I kid you not.) As I put the final fork full of food in my mouth a hovering waitress snatches my plate away, along with my half-finished drink, fixes me with a sullen glare, and barks “give me fork”. Once she has my fork she then tells me that I must either “go away now” or buy something else as they are busy and I am “taking up too much space”. (Thanks for that.) Clearly the waitress felt that I had not been appreciative enough of her splendid service as, after being ejected for the terrible crime of occupying too much space, I was stopped on my way out, with a less than friendly demand to “give me tip”. Having failed to provide a tip at the time - mainly because this is, as far as I can recall, the worst service I have ever experienced anywhere - I offer one here – that if you basically hate everybody, a job that involves working with people probably isn’t the best career choice. This is not somewhere I will go again, but if you enjoy paying well over the odds for your meal and then speed eating it whilst being subject to unprovoked abuse then it's definitely the place for you.
