Signor Sassi is an Italian restaurant with lots of atmosphere and character; it's noisy and generally full of people. They can cater for private parties of up to 30 people.

In my opinion, there is no better place in London when it comes to Italian cuisine. The food is always very fresh and flavoursome, and the staff always there when you need.

We booked for a Thursday night for a party of eight people and found the restaurant very crowded which is a good indication that the restaurant is popular. The service was reasonable but we were kept waiting for over 30 minutes until our table was availlable. The tables are so close together that the restaurant would have struggled to sit another diner down and everytime the waiter passed our table he managed to knock my daughters jacket of the back of her chair onto the floor. The room was very noisy and I struggled to hear the conversation of the people next to me and any attempt to talk to someone at the other side of the table was impossible.
The food was very good and compensated for the other problems. There was a bowl of olives and a bowl of Parmesan cheese and several helpings of bread. I would recommend the fish dishes as I had lemon sole and my daughter had an ample portion of tuna. I would consider going again but not in a large partty.

We found the restaurant by accident and were excited to make reservations. Our maitre d' was very personable and took extra time helping with food and wine selections. He truly contributed to the positive aspects of the evening. The waiter was another story; he was infatuated with the majority of the other patrons which were Muslim. We were ignored by him the whole evening. Let's be clear, a waiter should cater to his best customers - that's fine. However, the measure of a great restaurant is their ability (conscientious decision?) to treat their newest patron like their best patron. Unfortunately, the wait staff doesn't subscribe to this proposition. This is particularly unfortunate because the food was excellent! Pricey, but worth the money.
So, either be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen or bring your entire entourage, make them aware that you will spend excessively on courses you don't even eat or care about and be ready for the waiters to make absolute FOOLS of themselves kissing up to you. Anyone of any real means, experience or culture can tell the difference. I just wanted to be treated with a little respect, not royalty, but then again, I come from a country that doesn't acknowledge any form of royalty. Guess which one that is.

Just wanted to let everyone know what a fantastic night I had at Signor Sassi's! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and the whole atmosphere is most definitely authentic Italian. As a regular visitor to Italy, I feel many restaurants really don't compare, however Signor Sassi has hit it right on the head!
Have your say
