dirty, uncleared tables
absolute deliberate rip-off trick - perfectly ok burger and chips, £9
small diet coke from the tap, £3
I guess nobody looks at the drinks prices but really, they should be ashamed...

Went for breakfast at 8am on Sat 1st March(as the sign at the front of the pub says they open at 7am) and the pub was still closed. I was then rudely told by a waitress to wait! They would be open soon. No other explanations were given.

I left at this point, very disappointed with the level of customer service and the staff attitude as a whole!

On the whole not too bad. Wine good. Flat bread ok. Steak as I ordered it rare. Not used the toilets. Had breakfast here some months ago which was good.

Breakfast here was fine, and we enjoyed, but the ladies loo was in a disgusting state and so not acceptable!! I would not want to go into finer details for obvious reasons, but someone really should sort it out!!! Tables need a real good clean too!! All sticky and not nice!!

The toilets here were disgusting. Perhaps check them out before you eat the food. Soap dispensers off the wall rubbish all over the floors- a complete mess. Staff said no lady worker available to clean up! Food arrived not as ordered but tasted ok. Other reviews seem to show this is not a new issue.

Avoid like the Plague!
Unbelievably surly and rude barman, filthy tables and grubby glasses.
Horrible!

Visited Sloe bar at 9.20pm on Friday 30th July . Only one other customer . ALL tables filthy , uncleared and chairs scattered everywhere . 3 staff on duty with 1 commencing to clear when we asked if they had any pride in their workplace . 2 blamed the guy who was cleaning . Would have taken 2 efficient staff about 10 minutes to clear all whilst one remained to serve any other customers who happened by . Some people did come in but left straight away - I can only surmise that it was because of the state of the place . Contrasted with the upper bar and bar adjacent to platform 10 it was a disgrace .
I seem to remember it was in a similar state when I visited last year . I suppose they do not care as it is a transient clientele .

Should replace the 'e' in the name with a 'w'. Unbelievably slow service. Which is a bit of a problem if you've got a train to catch...

Called in here on 16 November early evening. The place gave the general impression of neglect and grubbiness. Wrappers and other rubbish on the floor, table spray and screwed-up paper on one table, other tables not cleared. Our table was cleared but sticky. There were no lids available for the teapots. The Ladies was in an awful state - again rubbish on the floors inside and outside the cubicles, broken tap and soap dispenser. On the positive side, the bar staff were welcoming and working hard - I presume someone else was supposed to clean the place up. I'd hate to think this might be the first cafe/bar an overseas visitor would go to from the Heathrow Express on arriving in the UK.

I went to Paddington's Sloe in a morning prior to catching a train.
I thought that as there was quite some time before the train was to
leave, I'd have time to get an English breakfast that I didn't have
time to get at the hotel (in Dover, but that's another story). There
were a small number of customers in the outside mezzanine, but the
interior was almost empty, so I thought that a relaxing, hassle-free
breakfast was to be had before embarking.

I got the orange juice with me from the bar and went to the table.
The breakfast was served after some delay by a young man who didn't seem
to have been coached too much on even elementary table serving manners,
just silently offloading the tray and retreating to the kitchen.
Next I noticed that although I had clearly stated that I wanted a tea
as well as the orange juice, it was not included and hadn't been charged.
I went to the bar to order it again and pay for it. I waited and waited
for the tea to be served, but the two people at the tiller seemed to
have hands full with the few arriving customers. As time was now
starting to get short, I had stated to eat alarmingly fast and finally
went rather ****ed off to ask the young woman at the tiller about my tea.
It was ready, but neither had bothered to either carry the tray with the
pot and the cup to my table or at least give a shout about it being
ready. By now, the breakfast had turned into a rather annoying affair
contrary to my relaxed expectations. I ate as much as I could before
I had to leave for the train, but the tea drinking (too) turned out to be
more of a hurried slurping exercise rather than a no-hassle morning
ritual.

With business being rather slow, with only a few customers, the sloppiness
was unforgivable as they had left out the tea themselves in the first
place, especially given the steep price of the items. It may have been an
"off-day" for all the personnel there, but I know how to vote with my fe

The place isn't bad but don't order the steak! Mine came with fried onion rings - greasy, mushy peas - pasty, a fried mushroom - very greasy, a few chips - not bad, and a steak which tasted of liver. The whole thing left me with a film of grease all over the inside of my mouth and a rather unpleasant feeling of queasiness.
The pizzas aren't too bad though.
The service was quick.
Not as friendly and as snug as the Mad Bishop and Bear pub also in the station.
