I tried this store out before travelling further to get my Asian groceries and after this visit I will never set foot in this store again.
Firstly, it is VERY OVERPRICED. If you're buying here regularly you're being ripped off immensely. I wanted some sesame seed oil and the price for the tiny bottles available was ABSURD. It didn't even look like high quality oil either. The multi-pack of noodles can be found cheaper in the large Sainsbury's, a bus ride away, so there's no reason to be purchasing from this woman.
Secondly, the woman's attitude STINKS. The friendly woman other reviews speak of is for regular customers only. She must know this too as she was begging another customer to leave a positive review lol. She got very pushy when she informed me it was £15 minimum to pay by card. If her prices were fair, maybe I would have picked up a few things to meet that minimum. However, her change in demeanour put me off wanting to pay for her overpriced product and she quite frankly ruined my day.
I cannot stress this enough, AVOID this overpriced store that is owned by an incredibly rude woman.

FLK groceries Catford is the place to shop for your authentic Chinese ingredients. For a small place, the store surprisingly packed with a lot of Chinese goodies, yet all are arranged very neatly. The shop is very clean, fresh & welcoming.
The staff who works there is very friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. The shop is conveniently near Catford Bridge & Catford stations, so very good for shopping for authentic Chinese ingredients & spices on my way home. FLK Chinese Groceries Catford, you have got to try it out!

Being a huge foodie, and a lover of Asian flavours, I was delighted when I found FLK. I regularly visit the store for staples such as curry paste and glass noodles and every time I visit I make a point to try something new. My adventurous nature is fuelled by the lovely lady who works there (I think she may be the owner?) always smiley and chatty and I have never come across someone who knows their stock so well! Recently fell in love with shiritake noodles and I took her advice and bought some Szechuan paste which I can't wait to try! Thank you for your excellent service from a regular :)

This would be a great shop anywhere, for the standards of service and the range of stock across Chinese, Thai, Korean and Japanese food, intelligently sourced by the charming and ultra-helpful owner, who has a smile for everyone. Prices are not greedy, the fresh and frozen food range is unbelievable for a shop this size, and as a local I find it invaluable. Always a pleasure to shop here, and very often a voyage of discovery. Recipe ideas, food combining advice, even ways to save money, are all offered by the owner, who is also open to suggestions for new stock items.

I've been buying a range of Chinese, Japanese and Korean food, drinks and snacks from FLK since I discovered it last summer. There is a great selection of Korean ready meals (japche and katsu chicken are my favourites) along with competively priced frozen foods, right the way through to treats such as peppero and aloe Vera.

In addition, warm and welcoming staff make shopping here a true delight!
FLK is a rare gem in Catford, I'd highly recommend a visit.

I envy the Catford locals for such a store. I was pleased to see so many products from, and for, Asian cuisine. The lady behind the counter is such a nice lady and can help you with tips and tricks. I've learned a lot from her in a short period of time. Visit de store if you like Chinese cuisine. I'm sure you'll find more than that. I'm looking forward to see a store like that in Romania, a country where I come from.

My boyfriend and i popped in here today and had such amazing service. We are both vegetarians and find it hard to know what to put in to sushi but the advice and suggestions of Lei were brilliant; she really knows her stuff! Will definitely be going back there again; a little oasis!

We were looking for a Chinese supermarket near where we live in Lewisham and found a gem of a place in FLK. It had everything we needed displayed in a neat and tidy way. Infact my father (a wanabee Ken Hom) was like a child in a sweetshop and it was not too long before our basket was full. The lady serving was kind and helpful making it a really pleasurable experience.

I had a great time shopping at FLK groceries the other day! There us a wudr selection of products and the sales assistant Lai was sooooo friendly and helpful. She showed me exactly how to make sushi and got all of the necessary ingredients. Now I'm a sushi expert in training (just joking I've still got a long way to go). Fancy having such a great shop right on my doorstep! Will definitely be coming back :) Bernice

We had a fantastic shopping experience at FLK yesterday. Though a small store, it's perfectly laid out and well-decorated with all goods easy to find and extremely well-priced. FLK had everything that we were looking for to make the perfect Pad Thai with appetisers. What's most impressive though is the high level of friendly customer service that they offer, including extremely helpful cooking advice! In addition, there were delicious food samples to taste in the store. we'll definitely be back!

Fantastic upbeat knowledgeable service from Lai, who recommended other products for me to try. Im so glad i can find my favourite teas there. Its great to stop in on the way to the chilly rail station especially on a cold night. I was impressed with how clean the shop is and its certificates. They have so many gluten free & other healthy products that are not full of junk so i am looking forward to shopping there next time. THanks.

This is the first Chinese food store that I used in London in 2005 and I'm glad I found it. It offers a wide selection of Asian food and excellent customer service. I always buy more than I need but come away with good value for money offers. I can't wait till they have shopping online! Rebecca ^_

Probably the best Chinese Supermarket in SE London - I can't believe I have lived down the street from this little gem for months and have never gone! I was trekking all over Chinatown in search for things that I could get back home, but this store had just about everything.

Having been a regular here for 2years, i should have reviewed a while ago! FLK is a real gem, especially for a novice cook like me- main lady always offers useful tips for Japanese recipes I try out. Btw they started selling fresh oriental buns- I nabbed a yummy warm roast pork bun last saturday
Response from Lai kuen Manager
Thank you for your kind comment. Glad you have enjoyed the freshly baked roast pork bun! Come again this Saturday 12-6pm if you want more. Come early to avoid any disappointment. Last Saturday (first time) we have sold out at 13:20pm, however, this saturday we are stocking double quantity of the buns to meet the demand! Thank you for your support.

I’ve been a regular at this chinese supermarket a few years now and always find some thing new. Recently i have got into Thai cooking with the help of the Chinese Lady who runs the store. If you’ve ever had a recipe you’ve been dying to try that needs something like lemon grass that’s virtually imp
Response from Lai kuen Manager at FLK Chinese Groceries
Thank you for being a wonderful customer! Glad you liked the lemon grass that I recommended. For the best result is to chop the frozen lemon grass when it is still frozen. I love lemon grass in my green tea, Thai salad, Tom yum soup and stir fry. Fantastic marinade for meat: chopped lemon grass, chopped ginger, chopped garlic, soya sauce and palm sugar. Yummy in ribs, beef, chicken, pork or lamb.

I’m from Korea, and I discovered this oriental grocery store last year. when I first moved to Forest Hill. I assumed it would not specialise in Korean goods, I am so happy to say that I found every Korean ingredient, I need here. ‘Lai’ the woman who runs the shop, is very helpful and polite.

Authentic products.
Reasonable prices.
Friendly and knowledgeable service.

I first entered a year ago, looking for tofu.
Now I am enjoying a slow tour of the stocks and pastes for soups and stir fry.
It's miso this week.

I highly recommend you try FLK.
You won't be disappointed.

I've just moved to Forest Hill and discovered this shop after visiting a friend. I agree with a lot of the reviewers that the selection and range of products is very impressive. As well as my native Japanese Food, I cook a variety of Asian foods, Korean, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese you name it I've probably tried it (I can't tell you if they were successful or not, but I tried!) Also, the prices are very reasonable, which makes shopping on a student budget a little easier. The shop is very clean and organised and the Lady is very helpful and polite. I was able to try samples of new snack available. There is plenty of fresh tofu (my favourite!) in the refrigerated section and great selection healthy snacks I will be stocking up here for my weekly supplies and definitely recommend this shop to anybody. :)

Finally a local Oriental Foods Specialist Store. Staff are helpful and definitely know their products and are always willing to provide cooking tips and advise, unlike some stores I have been. Products are well priced, and as others have commented, despite the size of the shop they do seem to have everything! A really massive selection of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese Foods and Drinks. They also have sizable Gluten-Free range, which was of particular interest to me. I will definitely be a regular at this store!

This is a fantastic Chinese Supermarket with a great range of products, but the best thing about is the very helpful owner. All you have to do is ask and she'll tell you how to make your favourite Chinese meal. I asked her how to make Fried Ho Fun and the recipe she gave me worked a treat. Great shop!!

im a busy man, i dont have to take the time out to do this but i want to because the service is just brilliant. great!
in my experience when i first stepped into the store i had no idea what to expect but that scarey feeling of stepping into a place which i have had no previous experience with was soon gone for good when i was welcomed by the kind lady working there.
i havent even got to the service and shopping point of my first experience yet and allready i felt at ease and comfortable.
shopping there is like a learning experience for me and a time to relax. i can learn about different types of food and the many tips the staff have to offer should i chose to put them into practice, or if i dont have time to spare i am guided by the staff to find exactly what im looking for without rummaging and searching on my own. im a regular customer now, i go there once or twice monthly to stock up on groceries and know that i will be shopping there for the forseable future.
i dont care if i sound too eager, im just a very satisfied customer!
great shop, great staff, great prices, a great experience, and all with a smile.

I was in the area due to flat hunting and found a lovely, cosy little shop full of goodies... i walked in (to my hubby's dismay) claming i was only going to get 1 "quick" item... but i got caught in! the lady from the shop was wonderful and taught me lots of tricks about how to prepare sushi. The customer service was excellent. I wish they had another shop in my area (E15).

I have visited this shop and had the most pleasant shopping experience, The staff is marvelous. Although this shop is not too large, it has a wide veriety of chinese foods and spices. The manager was extremely helpful, I good endless help with deciding on what to purchase.
But the most suprising part I was also giving assistance on how to cook the dishes, and a printed recipie.
The prices find this chinese supermarket excellent. It’s small but there is loads of choice also lots of items that you can’t get elsewhere. The prices are good/average & I find lots of food is cheaper than other supermarkets I have visited. As well as food they also have a good range of frozen goodies.
Overall a good shop with friendly staff & well worth a visit.Looking for that mystical oriental ingredient for your recipe, forget Tesco get to FLK in Catford, buy it there not only will it be fresher (its busy stuff moves quickly) but normally it is cheaper too.

Planning a family party? Have a look though the frozen food for nibbles / finger food. Planning an authentic meal?
And dont forget to ask for a recipie for you are trying to cook.
Enjoy
