A taste of cinematic luxury with value to match

A cinema experience is one of life’s simple pleasures but just imagine taking that simplest of pleasures and running with it. The Lounge at Odeon Whitey’s is the result of just that and while popcorn and a mega-size bucket of Coke is still a treat, this tips the balance.

Located at the top of the Whiteleys Shopping Centre in Bayswater, The Lounge is the answer to complaints that cinema’s have lost sight of what people are willing to pay for some popped corn and a bag of sweets. The Lounge has come up with a menu, format and experience that offers a taste of cinematic luxury with value to match.

The premise: screens of differing size are kitted out with vast recliners that not only tilt back but, wait for it, have electronic footrests that make horizontal viewing almost achievable. Bliss. Comfortable, roomy and so far away from your neighbour that rustling packets aren’t an issue. Not that they would be because at The Lounge there is a bona fide food menu.

The only problem with this food menu, of which the likes of butternut squash risotto, sushi and sliders are all a part, is that instead of rustling packets its scraping cutlery on plates. Not the end of the world but still…

The food is reasonable and while it won’t be winning any gastronomic prizes, for a cinema it feels special. The jumbo hotdog is reassuringly ‘cinema’ and the steak sliders are tasty.

The best part about the Lounge experience though, is the drinking. Press the blue button to order refreshments during the film and a waiter will stealthily maneuver their way towards your chair. Negronis, Manhattans, wine and beer all at the push of a button feels absurdly special.

People love to push buttons and when you have the recliner, the footrest and the waiter call, that’s a lot of buttons that need pushing. The Lounge is an experience of the cinema that might leave you cold at the thought of your next trip to the multiplex. And did we mention you get to order cocktails from your seat? During the film!

The cinema is already a bit of a treat these days but the Odeon Lounge makes shelling out on a ticket really worthwhile.

Drinks and food are served to your seat - and those seats recline at the push of a button (something that doesn't get old no matter how many times you push it).

The food may not be so great but a Campari delivered to my drinks rest while I watch a movie is still a novelty and a luxury. Definitely worth a visit.
