Queen's Diamond Garden

To mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, this garden was created next to the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace. The person chosen to design it was Nigel Dunnet, who had previously won the gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show. In-keeping with its name, the garden is divided into diamond-shaped boxes, delineated with Portland stone.

The Victoria Business Improvement District (BID) are the developers, and part of their role is to develop new green spaces in the area. As flower beds around Victoria are prone to water flooding, the plants chosen for the garden can trap rainfall, either by drawing the water into the soil or retaining it on leaves and rosettes. The plants are evergreens, however the spring and summer sees the majority come into bloom. They’re low maintenance too, so water and energy requirements are kept to a minimum. A very green project in more ways than one.
