The world’s most famous Japanese restaurant arrived in London in 1997. It’s on the first floor of the Metropolitan hotel on Park Lane (a second branch has since opened on Berkeley Street). Nobu Matsuhisa’s dishes popularised Japanese fusion cuisine with high end ingredients like pairing wagyu with caviar, or stuffing gyoza with foie gras and minced wagyu.

The recipient of a Michelin star, diners at Nobu are either celebrities or extremely wealthy, as eating here has become something of an exercise in status.

We point you in the direction of some of London's best Japanese food

No list of London’s Japanese restaurants could be complete without a mention of Nobu could it? Celeb spotting aside, it is one of the most famous names on the culinary scene. Where else could you find the signature dish of black cod in miso? Located on Old Park Lane Nobu is expensive, exclusive and innovative. It is an occasion.

Nobu is the celebrity restaurant par excellence, as you can tell by the eager paparazzo that usually gather outside. Now that far eastern food is huge in the capitalNobu’s offering isn’t as special as it once seemed, however it still remains the best place for finding out which Hollywood celebs are in town.

Kanpai!

Although most people go to people-watch (and to show off to their mates that they've been here), it's also worth a visit for the sake, some of which are exclusive to Nobu alone. There's a selection served in frosted jugs and bamboo cups too - which you can also show off about to your friends.

Really fantastic sushi in a great location. On the slightly costly side so for special occasions. Would definitely go back.

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to dine at. The service is very helpul yet inobtrusive. The food itself is to die for - there were 4 of us dining and each meal was beautiful as the next. What we also enjoyed was that each dish was served as and when ready so they were delivered at different times and so we all ate a bit of each others.

The only fault with this place is that its so popular its extremely difficult to get a booking unless ofcourse your name is Robert Di Nero!

Ten out of Ten!!!!
