Camden Town Brewery
All In London Review
When you want the freshest beer, head straight to the source... a fine establishment!
On this occasion arrival is simple. A short walk from Kentish Town West and you’re in the railway arches where the Camden Brewery is located. One would expect that during the summer months, the pedestrian pathway outside would be packed. Being a freezing cold March evening, this can’t be said to be true of this occasion. And yet still the brave cling to the outdoor heaters as they trade the combination of cold toes and burnt faces for the luxury of space. You can deduce from this that the interior of the Camden Brewery is on the small side. Covered with blonde wooden struts, it has a chalet look to it that is clean and smart. In keeping with that there are the beer taps – equally spaced and built into the wall behind the bar in a manner that’s all about fresh lines and considered design.
One large seating area to the left of the bar is joined by rows of wooden tables in the main drinking space. Sitting room is minimal, standing room too for that matter, which is why the patio feels as much a part of the bar as its interior.
All draught beer is brewed here and you’ll find the Hells Lager, Camden Ink and Pale Ale among others on tap. There are also guest beers and bottles available. Also just launched are the Camden Brewery Growlers. These are large bottles, which are to be filled, pressurized and taken away - a craze that has apparently blown up in America.
At the venue the choice is between pints, four-pint pitchers and ‘Flights’, which consists of a tasting set of five different beers. Camden Brewery make some fine tipples – the Pale Ale a particular favourite – and if you’re into exploring the world of craft beer then definitely opt for a ‘Flight’ to sample the best of the rest. Food comes in the way of street stalls that set up under the arch and serve to customers both inside and outside. Could be burgers, could be tacos, it’s always changing, just who knows?
The Camden Brewery do it very well. They do it with style. Brewery fresh beer, rotating street food stalls and a smart interior make it well worth travelling to – just double check you’ve got the correct address.
