In 2012 Spitalfields celebrates its gourmet status as the most exciting culinary destination in London with a Festival highlighting the hundreds of diverse restaurants, bars and cafes of this distinctive district. From haute cuisine to delicious street food and specialist shops Spitalfields has it all.

Easily accessible from Liverpool Street, Aldgate and Aldgate East tube stations, and the new Shoreditch High Street Station, Spitalfields offers the opportunity to taste a truly international variety of dishes from all over the world.

Explore Spitalfields area and discover a history closely connected to immigration. In the late 17th century large numbers of French Huguenots settled in the area mainly involved in the silk weaving industry and many of their fine Georgian houses survive. In the latter part of the 19th century the area was dominated by Eastern European Jews and since the end of the 20th century many people from Bangladesh have settled here. So it’s not surprising that Spitalfields is such a vibrant cultural quarter, full of artists, galleries, famous markets and quirky boutiques, with a remarkable variety of food to enjoy.
