All In London Review
The type of place you could readily spend a whole day, scratch that, a whole weekend.
Having been closed for the past twenty years the Well and Bucket returns to Bethnal Green Road. Located adjacent to Brick Lane it is another welcome addition to Shoreditch. The vast space inside is peppered with tables and intimate booths spread around the large circular bar in the middle. Tasteful and stylish – this is the modern London pub. The walls are distressed, the artwork is all neo-gothic portraiture and the ceiling is covered with low hanging light bulbs, filaments exposed. In fact, it’s actually rather beautiful. There, we’ve said it.
Behind the bar, it’s a case of the new normal for London pubs. Craft beer from Britain to Bavaria and beyond is served from draught and bottles, along with a large range of whisky, bourbon, vodka and rum. There is also a basement cocktail bar below but that exists as an almost entirely separate entity, which affords it its own future review.
Food employs the slider system, which equates to a range of miniature ‘burgers’ with fillings like pork belly and pickles and braised lamb shank. However, although the sliders are as tasty as any we’ve eaten recently, we’d highly recommend you invest in a bucket of prawns and accompany them with oysters, which come prepared in a variety of ways.
The Well and Bucket has almost re-launched by numbers. Everything that seems to be relevant in the London pub scene in 2013 is present and with it has come a lively atmosphere, which makes it the type of place you could readily spend a whole day, scratch that, a whole weekend.

This'll warm your cockles...
The Bethnal Green pub is getting reputation for its selection of beers and ales but it also keeps a large range of whisky and bourbon behind the bar. Even more interestingly, you can find a secret cocktail bar in the basement below where bartenders will mix to your content.

One thing you need to remember when heading to the Well and Bucket - don't wear a white shirt!
The chicken wings here are awesome - and massively sticky. Let's just say that after a few pints of strong micro brew I didn't realised - or seem to care - about getting the orange hotness over my front. Oops.
Good pub with a lot of good beers and an oyster obsession.
