A BRICOLAGE WALK - AN ALTERNATIVE WAY TO MAP, WRITE AND EXPLORE THE CITY
A ‘bricolage’ is a creative work cobbled together from whatever is at hand. Interestingly, for the urban explorer, the way we experience London has been likened to bricolage, since we never really grasp the whole but only know it piecemeal. In this walking-workshop, we’ll use a range of simple techniques to gather fragments – written, found and photographed – from our surroundings. Over lunch at The Warwick Castle - a lovely, out-of-the-way pub in Little Venice - we’ll draw inspiration from London authors who have used a bricolage style in order to reflect the pace, energy and complexity of the city. We’ll end by making our own, personal ‘bricolage map’ in order to capture the very distinctive moods of the places we pass through as we wander back to our original starting point.
Run by The Urban Journalling Company, London. Numbers are capped at ten for a cosy dynamic. No previous experience or artistic skill necessary. Just curiosity, a notebook, and a pen.
