As part of the Truce Arts project, over 100 young Londoners worked alongside 5 professional artists to produce over 50 digital artworks that express the young people’s understanding of Truce in everyday life.

A selection of the best Truce artwork will be screened as part of the Nottinghill exhibition party for Global Truce 2012 on UN International Peace Day, 21 September, where wine and artisan breads will be served.

The event will feature Truce Triptych created by young filmmakers and photographers from A New Direction’s Headstart programme with filmmakers at Eelyn Lee Productions and photographers Tim & Barry. Inspired by Old Master paintings, these three slow-moving tableaux images represent conflict and resolution on the streets, at home and in the workplace. Shot on locations in Hackney and Waltham Forest the images feature young people playing various roles including a pregnant mum in white, representing the figure of Justice, and a young man dressed for an interview battling with a politician at the doors of a local Job Centre.

Also on display will be a selection of short hand-drawn animations created by artist Janette Parris and art students from BSix College in Hackney, including Going Home, a story about a runaway who is later happily reunited with her parents and the beautiful work Flightlines, which was recently shown at the Tate Modern.

Beyond the UN International Peace Day, Truce Arts has an ongoing call out for artists and young people from around the world to contribute their own digital artwork (photography, film or animation), via the project website, where all submissions will be displayed alongside the commissioned Truce artwork in the online gallery.

To support this there is a FREE downloadable resource pack to help arts educators, teachers and young people themselves find out more about the Truce Arts project and how they can get involved, in schools, youth settings or at home (available on the Truce Arts website resources page).
