UBS Soundscapes – the LSO in the City - combines the awe-inspiring sounds of the London Symphony Orchestra and dramatic large-scale photography, captured by award-winning Swiss photographer, Alberto Venzago.
Venzago took the images behind the scenes at LSO concerts and on tour with the Orchestra in St Petersburg. The striking shots, blown up to 7m x 2.5m metres tall, will be accompanied by LSO recordings of music ranging from Beethoven and Debussy to music from the films Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The exhibition aims to introduce commuters and City workers to the magnificence and breadth of the LSO’s orchestral soundworld, while also conveying the visual excitement of musical performance. As such, throughout the day it will give passers-by an intriguing taste of what it’s like to experience the power of a live orchestral performance. The opening of the LSO’s 2006/7 season at The Barbican is from Saturday 23rd September.
