Britain’s first ever UK Gold Kilo Coin has arrived at Harrods and will be looked after by round the clock security.

Britain’s first ever UK Gold Kilo Coin has arrived at Harrods and will be looked after by round the clock security.

Struck by The Royal Mint, this historic new gold coin has been designed by one of the most influential sculptors of modern times, Sir Anthony Caro OM CBE RA, to celebrate London 2012 and is on display to Harrods shoppers.

The £100,000 coin, containing one kilo of fine gold is showcased at Harrods Shop and is one of only 60 created, making it one of the most exclusive pieces of London 2012 memorabilia. The Gold Kilo Coin is presented in a beautifully crafted case accompanied by an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity, numbered and personally signed by Sir Anthony Caro.

A Harrods spokesperson commented, “Harrods is delighted to have been chosen by The Royal Mint to showcase Britain’s first ever UK Kilo Coin. We hope to excite our regular customers and those visiting London over the summer with this exclusive collector’s item.”

Also on display is the first ever UK Silver Kilo Coin also commissioned in celebration of London 2012.The coin was designed by fellow Royal Academy member and internationally renowned artist, composer and writer, Tom Phillips CBE RA, and is priced at £3,000. Harrods has created a special display cabinet for the coins which will be kept under lock and key.
