Rock and Roll at Quaglino’s: Gered Mankowitz Photography Exhibition

Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones In collaboration with Snap Galleries

As part of Quaglino’s successful series of ongoing photography exhibitions, the restaurant will welcome photographer Gered Mankowitz from Monday 14th January. The exhibition, entitled ‘Rock and Roll’, will be a collaboration with Snap Galleries located in nearby Piccadilly Arcade, which specialises in rare rock ‘n’ roll photographs taken by the master photographers of the genre. Mankowitz, who was first inspired to pursue photography by the actor Peter Sellers, has had an extensive 45 year career, focusing on photographing musical royalty as well as supplying many leading magazines with celebrity portraits.

The focus for this forthcoming exhibition is Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, the ultimate icons of rock and roll. Many of the images were taken in nearby Mason’s Yard, in the very heart of swinging London. Mankowitz established his first studio there in 1963, and a number of legendary photo shoots took place over the years including two sessions that Mankowitz shot in 1967 with Jimi Hendrix and his band The Experience. These images subsequently became the most well-known studio pictures of the great musician. Quaglino’s, with its rich history, is the perfect setting for this tale of London.

Quaglino’s Bar Manager Michal Zawerbny has devised a series of exclusive cocktails to complement the exhibition, sponsored by FAIR. Vodka. Visitors to the exhibition can choose two cocktails for just £15 whilst viewing the exhibition and sipping on either a ‘Rock n Roll’, containing fresh passion fruit, FAIR. Vodka and FAIR Goji Liqueur, fresh lime juice and a dash of sugar gomme, served in a perfectly chilled martini glass or a ‘Jimmi’s Choice’ FAIR. Vodka, lychee liqueur balanced with lime, lychee juice, and sugar gomme, served long.

This will be the seventh in Quaglino’s series of photography exhibitions. Previous artists have included Kirsty Mitchell, creator of the Wonderland Series and award-winning sports photographer Bob Martin’s retrospective.
