“One night in Quaglino’s, I found a small but real pearl in an oyster…”

To celebrate the launch of glamorous cocktail and jazz bar THE HUTCH CLUB at QUAGLINO’S, the legendary restaurant is hiding a South Sea Ronirose pearl worth £2,000 in an oyster for one lucky diner to find.

Taking inspiration from Barbara Cartland, who once found a pearl in her oyster while dining during charismatic host Giovanni Quaglino’s reign at the restaurant in the 1930’s, she concluded it was a “gift from nature and not part of Quaglino’s personal hospitality!”

To celebrate the restaurant’s heritage of when it first opened its doors to a beautiful, decadent society crowd in 1929; for the whole of July 2013, Quaglino’s will be purposefully extending their hospitality to all guests with the chance to find the beautiful 14.2mm cream pearl (gem quality of AAA) when ordering West Mersea Rock Oysters priced at £2.25 each or while enjoying The Hutch Club 1929 menu which includes Six West Mersea Rock Oysters and a coupe of champagne charged at just £19.29 in the main restaurant.

The story of South Sea Ronirose pearls is a fit to honour the great dame of romantic novels and the glamour of Quaglino’s in the twenties and thirties.

Founder, Germme Ronirose grew up surrounded by pearls, which were discussed over breakfast and played with at dinner: “Known as the Pearl of the Orient Seas, and with the pearl as national gem, the Philippines has always had a natural affinity with pearls. In the past, Badjao men would dive in the deep seas to procure natural South Sea pearls as what could only be described as real proof of love to his woman.”

One lucky modern day diner will have the opportunity to enjoy this gift of love, which will be crafted into a bespoke pendant with a18k white gold chain at the Ronirose studio in Milan. Perfect as a gift to a loved one or to keep and cherish.
