Don’t panic! College offers GCSE result top tips

College announces free advice sessions and GCSE top tips

Waiting for your GCSE results is always a nervous affair, but this year, the College of North West London is here to help.

The College has some top tips on how to prepare for results day. In addition, the College has also announced it will be holding special GCSE results day advice sessions at its Wembley and Willesden campuses so that young people can get free, impartial advice on all matters related to their results.

Jo Lawrence, Head of Student Development Services at the College explains: “Waiting for your results is always difficult, but there are plenty of things you can do to help ensure you are ready for the day. Being prepared is the best way to make sure the experience isn’t so scary and will help you make the right choices.”

Indeed, Jo recommends following these helpful top tips:

• Ahead of results day, think about what you want to do next. Know the grades you need for your ‘Plan A’, but also think about a back-up option just in case. For example, think about what your career goals are, what you like doing and what you want to study.
• Remember to look at all your options. For example, are A-levels the next step for you or would a vocational (job-related) course be right instead? These courses teach the skills you need for a career in that area, and will also have a clear route to university for those who want to study at a higher level.
• If you are not sure what you want to do, or don’t get the grades you were hoping for, speak to a professional to get help.
• The College of North West London is providing free, professional, impartial advice on courses and careers at their GCSE results day advice sessions – open from 9am-4pm on 22 August.
• Once you have made up your mind and get your grades, confirm your sixth form/college place as soon as you can.
• It is not unusual to change your mind about what you want to do before your course starts, or even in the first few weeks of your course. If this is something you want to do, speak to an adviser in your school or college straight away – they should be able to help.
• And most importantly, don’t panic!

Jo continues: “There are so many talented young people in the borough that we know will go far. The main thing we would like to reiterate as you wait for your results is not to worry. Whatever grades you achieve, there are plenty of good options and help available to you. Good luck!”
