The College of North West London’s IT team are celebrating after it was announced that they have won the ‘Storage Project of the Year’ Award at a prestigious IT awards ceremony.
The award was the result of the College’s investment in innovative IT services and storage programmes over the past five years which have been designed to help the College reduce costs whilst still supporting its development projects. The programmes introduced by the College’s IT team and Dell have already saved the College over £35,000, and these remarkable figures clearly helped impress the judges of the Storage, Virtualization, Cloud (SVC) Awards, for which the College’s award win was part of.
As the College of North West London’s head of IT, Garod Barker explains: “Our IT system was coming to the end of its lifespan so we needed to make sure we had a new system in place that could handle all the College’s crucial operations. Because of this we set about introducing new programmes, such as a storage system which is much better than before and works virtually, which means we won’t have to keep replacing it every few years. This means we’re going to be able to continue to save the College money. ”
The team doesn’t intend to stop there though. They are already working on other IT initiatives to help students and staff. This includes a new ‘paperless College’, where students and staff will be able to have quick and easy access to everything they need online on the College’s ‘cloud’.
Garod adds: “We weren’t expecting to win an award, but we’re delighted that we have. To be acknowledged for our efforts is fantastic. Everyone is really pleased.”
