London's Holy one and only Virgin Mary drag compere and comedian, Virgin Xtravaganzah returns to Egg LDN bringing her #StrutWithChrist! show to Gold Diggers Vs WUT? Club in association with Monster Queen’s ‘Disco Inferno’ Day of The Dead Special this Saturday November 3rd at Egg LDN.
An international performer and MC, Virgin Xtravaganzah hosts her semi regular Xtravaganzah variety shows at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern as well as working with Berlin Berlin and Gold Diggers at Egg LDN. She has also performed at the Underbelly Festival, and has been interviewed by Victoria Coren Mitchell's 'How to Be a Bohemian' for BBC4 (2015) and the’Battle of Soho' by Aro Koral. She is a Virgin on a mission, as you can see from her insights below.
Joining in the fun of Gold Diggers Vs WUT Club in association with Monster Queen presents Disco Inferno ‘Day of The Dead’ Special how would you describe what you do and its effect on the audience?
I’d like to think as The Virgin Mary, I have a calming vibe on an audience and that I fill them with peace and harmony. And a shit ton of blasphemy
Where and when did you start performing and why does your style hold such allure for you and for an audience?
My life has been a performative art project since having the son of God. I think I’m alluring to an audience because I’m the Virgin Mary with a moustache and people find that slightly surprising when they walk in a room.
What have been the highlights of your career so far?
Deffo having Jesus and stuff. After that, performing my own solo works at The Wallace Collection, The Underbelly Festival, Soho Theatre and all the shows I do at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern and The Glory.
Does your name have any special resonance and are you into all things other worldly?
I’m the Virgin f**king Mary. Yes I’m other worldly AF.
Which performers and artists did you look up to when you were starting out? Are there particular people you still follow and what’s special about them?
Elvira. Just Elvira.
Known for some incredible outfits where do you get your inspirations from and how are your outfits created - is there always a special look you’re trying to achieve?
I’m inspired by rebelling against the alpha and omega and that is a very defined lewk.
Day of The Dead - any special surprises in store for is on the night?
On the ‘Day of The Dead’ the 2nd of November, I’ll be performing my solo show in Bristol. I’m definitely going to try and take a moment to think about all those who have left this plane of existence on that day and to remember them and all the happiness they brought me when they were alive.
How important is it for people to have the escape of clubland in this digital era?
Very. God wants you to #PartyWithChrist!
