We speak with "sweetheart of the UK Soul scene" Soulful Emma Louise ahead of her first post lockdown show picture

Currently being hailed as  "the sweetheart of the UK Soul scene" Soulful Emma Louise - S.E.L plays her first Live show in London for a year as lockdown restrictions lift on Sunday July 25th at Boisdale Canary Wharf. With a full Live band, S.E.L is celebrating the release of her debut album 'Loc'd In Consciousness' and the lead single 'Melodic Harmony', which has just come out in its DJ Spen & Michele Chiavarini Remixes.

A North Londoner, now located East, S.E.L first came to our attention through Live sessions at the Hackney Empire going on to join Soul II Soul as their lead singer and tour the world. A solo artist for the last 4 years, Emma Louise has headlined key events such as the Summer Soulstice Festival, Margate Soul Weekender as well as featuring on Talk Radio's Badass Women's Hour. She has also worked with international artists Alicia Keys, Debbie Harry, Sanchez, and Jocelyn Brown.

Here S.E.L talks about her favourite spots in London and what makes them so special.

1. Camden Market

It’s such a melting pot of culture and art and the perfect representation of London.

2. Alexandra Palace

Somewhere very special to me as a North Londoner, and a place that I have frequented both as a child and throughout adulthood. Now it’s somewhere I take my daughter.

3. Covent Garden

Whether it’s spending time in Rayban, Neal’s Yard, Pandora, the indoor market or watching street performers; Covent Garden has it all and it’s such a jewel of London. Not to mention Maxwell’s Diner!

4. Boisdale Canary Wharf

Owned by Jools Holland, this has to be the best venue for Live Jazz and Soul music. Honoured to have played there before and my first time was as part of a covers band. I’m headlining here on Sunday July 25th - my first Live show in London this year - and so excited as it’s with a full Live band.

5. Borough Market

This is somewhere that I like to go to get items of food that you won’t find anywhere else. I have tasted the best hot chocolate, honey and pastries in this market. I absolutely love it.

6. Wood Green Farmers Market

OMG, somewhere you all need to visit. It used to be in Alexandra Palace on the first Sunday of every month and has now moved to Alexandra Park School. One word….Phenomenal. You can find organic local produce there, as well as local homegrown food products and food! From olive oils to cheese to juices. There’s an ITAL chef there that sells an all organic, vegan menu. Literally the best vegan food I have ever tasted. Highly recommend. Try his lentil wraps!

7. Crouch End

Myself, mum and daughter frequent Crouch End and love the charity shops, the restaurants and just walking up and down the high road visiting the bespoke arts and crafts shops.

8. Angel, Islington

Phenomenal restaurants and bars.

9 Paul. A. Young Chocolatiers

My favourite chocolatier. I treat myself to a visit at his shop in Islington once a year. Truffles are my weakness and, except for Belgium ones, these are the best I have ever tasted.

10. Ma Petite Jamaica, Camden

A new-ish Jamaican diner in the heart of Camden. The food is authentic and it’s owned and run by Jamaicans. Their menu is varied and they cater to all diets. I love their food.
