THE CROOKED WELL Launches an Urban Foraging Menu this Summer

Critically acclaimed Camberwell restaurant and bar The Crooked Well (www.thecrookedwell.com) has created an urban foraging menu to celebrate and highlight the fantastic produce that is available throughout the UK this summer.

Earlier this year, the venue teamed up with Nick Weston, founder of the Hunter:Gather:Cook School in Sussex, to take regulars on an urban foraging expedition. Inspired by the incredible array of edible ingredients on The Crooked Well’s doorstep, and with advice from Weston, Head Chef, Matt Green-Armytage, decided to put this produce on the menu and created a selection of dishes that use the very best of these ingredients.

In the final week of July, August and September, diners will be able to enjoy a bespoke urban foraging menu featuring edible items such as dandelion, sorrel, meadowsweet and pine needles from the wilds of the local area.

The menu will include such dishes as:
Fried Duck Egg with Wild Leaf and Flower Salad and Truffle Mayonnaise
Pan Fried Salmon Trout with Dandelion Ravioli, Sorrel Butter Sauce, Jelly Ear Fungi and Crisp Fennel
Meadowsweet Panna Cotta with Pine Needle Jelly

The food can be paired with a selection of specially designed cocktails using infusions, syrups and foraged ingredients, such as mint, hyssop leaves, thyme and nettles.

The team at The Crooked Well have brought a piece of a bygone age into the area with its relaxed atmosphere and hearty menu all harking back to a time when Camberwell was renowned for its fields of flowers, market gardens and fruit trees. All of these have been cultivated for this special menu, bringing the heritage of the restaurant to the forefront and celebrating the simplicity needed to create delicious dishes using only local produce.

The Crooked Well has a comfortable charm, combining oak floorboards, traditional wooden wainscoting, strong patterned botanical influenced wallpapers and a Victorian tiled bar area with intimate, low hanging pendant lights and provides a wonderful backdrop to an afternoon or evening dining on honest and rustic cuisine.
