London's biggest and best Sunday roast

Sunday Roast at the Italian Restaurant

The institution of the Sunday roast is the most celebrated part of British food culture. There is no shortage of places offering this traditional favourite but the Italian Restaurant at Novikov is set to launch its own take on the home-grown classic.

Set to become the destination for the best roasts in the capital, Novikov is offering the highest quality cuts sourced by Stratton Butchers in Leighton Buzzard.

This is a Sunday Roast like no other. The huge wood and gas fired oven uses a mix of apple, olive and oak woods to add further intensity to the flavours of the specially sourced joints of meat.

It’s the meal of the week for sharing, and in keeping with Novikov’s ethos of sourcing excellent products, Sunday roast offerings include rib of English beef, hand reared in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Bedfordshire (aged for a minimum of 24 days); leg of Texel lamb reared in Gloucestershire or whole free range chicken from Holly Farm in Worcestershire.

Pescatarians are not forgotten: whole roast turbot or seabass (salt crusted or baked), fresh from the coast, are also readily available.

For a truly special celebration (and with 48 hours notice) they will be delighted to lay on a veritable banquet: whole suckling pig or baby lamb, and from Sardinia, whole baby goat.

The Sunday Roast is a stalwart of British cuisine; some believe its origins date back as far as medieval times. Novikov can’t promise serving wenches and minstrels, but it can take the hassle out of organising and preparing this time-honoured weekly feast.

Prices for Novikov’s Sunday Roast start from £20.
