Valentine's at Roast

Music may be the food of love, but if you are looking for something a little more substantial this coming Valentine’s Day, you should head to Roast restaurant.

Hovering majestically over the iconic Borough Market, all large picture windows, high ceilings, crisp white tablecloths and gleaming silverware – not to mention stunning views across the dome of St Paul’s – Roast is one of the capital’s most romantic venues. (It is also an extremely popular location for weddings and civil partnerships should any happy couple wish to take the next step!).

This February it will be consolidating this position still further by offering a series of special promotions and menus that will ensure Cupid’s arrow really does hit the spot!

From 11th until 17th February, Roast will present a complimentary pair of stylish silver cufflinks and an elegant sterling silver pendant, both created by bespoke jewellery designer Noreen Mirza, to anyone ordering a bottle of champagne to the value of £60 or over when dining at Roast.

On the night itself head cook Marcus Verberne will present an exclusive ‘Sharing Menu’, alongside the regular à la carte offering. As with all dishes, these special creations will use only the best of the nation’s seasonal produce, some of it sourced from the local market traders themselves. In addition, bar manager Sebastien Guesdon will be acting as matchmaker for the occasion, proffering a selection of delicious wines - including several from Kent-based Chapel Down Winery – to pair with each course.

Available at lunch or dinner, this most romantic of feasts begins with pan-fried Manx queenies with hedgerow garlic butter, accompanied by a glass of Chapel Down’s ‘Chapter Two’ 2008.

The flames of passion are further fanned courtesy of delicious roast Goosnargh corn-fed duck with thyme-roasted beets & blood orange sauce, paired with a glass of Isole E Olena Chardonnay 2010 or perhaps Chapel Down’s ‘Union Red’ 2009.

It’s certainly not a question of sweet nothings as Roast brings festivities to a close with upside down apple tart with Somerset cider brandy ice cream matched with a glass of Banyuls ‘Gaby Vial’ 8-year-old Domaine Vial-Magneres.

Roast are masters of the personal touch and, as such, will be delighted to fulfil any personal request to make this Valentine’s Day an even more special one for its guests, from a message dusted around the pudding to a full-blown proposal surprise.
