Born in London, it was his in his home city in which Trevor Beresford Romeo – better known by his stage name Jazzie B – began his musical career. Starting out in 1977 with a group of musicians working under the title Jah Rico, he was part of a new breed of producers and DJs gaining recognition for the house and street parties they were playing. In 1982 he changed the group’s name to Soul II Soul before they went on to release their debut album Club Classics Vol. One. The critically acclaimed album went triple platinum, won them Grammy awards and gained the group international stardom. Throughout his career Jazzie B has continued to create popular music, producing for countless bands, while pursuing art, fashion and charity, all of which contributed to the award of his OBE in 2008. To this day there's still nothing like hearing the unmistakable intro to Back to Life in a club and rushing the dance floor.

Still living in London, the place where it all began, Jazzie B gives us his top tips in eating, drinking and clubbing.

Restaurants

Mango Room
It serves excellent Caribbean cuisine. I love that it is local to me and the service is great!

Bento Café
It’s nice to have sushi on my doorstep and it's the closest I get to Japanese cuisine that suits my palette.

Good Fare
You can get a good greasy meal in here morning, noon and night!

Bars

Shoreditch House
It's a 360-degree job with a great atmosphere up on the roof.

The Wolseley
This place is very London - always a good experience!

Paradise By Way of Kensal Green
A really good gastro pub in Kensal Green [Jazzie plays here on Friday 24th May], it’s the vibe in here that makes it.

The Club

The Africa Centre
I have to mention this because this was a springboard for Soul II Soul in the beginning. It was our Sunday night residency and a game-changing club for many clubbers and DJ's back in the day.

Jazzie B headlines the Groove Odyssey: House Legends party on Bank Holiday Sunday May 26th at Pacha alongside DJ Spen, Ralf Gum, Monique Bingham Live, Sean McCabe and Bobby & Steve.
