Tony has DJ-ed for the likes of Prince, the Pet Shop Boys, Sade, Michael Jackson as well as Madonna. From his original Total Fashion Victim party to residencies at Jungle, the Trade Lite Lounge, Crash and Heaven, Tony brings together the worlds of music, fashion, art and is behind his own floating Private Life parties held in different venues across London. Hailed for its excitement and crazy surprises Tony’s Private Life events feel more like a friend’s house party than a club, if your friends include celebrities and other famous faces.

Here, we have a chat ahead of his Private Life party at The Loft this Saturday..

How did the collaboration of Private Life and Familia come together and is it good to see clubs mixing things up?
Nick Tcherniak, the brilliant promoter of Familia asked me to host Familia in The Loft after I played at Egg London’s Birthday in May. The rest is (or will become) history!

How did you come up with the concept of Private Life?
I wanted to create a unique club brand in a time where London nightlife was being scrutinised so harshly. With our innovative collaborations, venues, special appearances and one-off entertainments, I think we’ve achieved that!

You recently played at the Life Ball HIV AIDS charity in Vienna and please can you tell us a little bit about this party and are you someone that regularly lends a hand to benefit and fundraising events?Yes, of course. I dedicate my life to NA and various charities, and one of the highlights of my career, besides the Life Ball was DJ-ing at AMFAR with Kate Moss.

Such a man about town and how does it feel to be a major influence in clubland because of your club DJ sets and extrovert personality and also what legacy do you think you’ll leave behind?
If I’ve made a difference in at least one person’s life because of the influence my music has had I’m happy. That’s one of the reasons I’m excited to be going back into producing… things will come full circle during the busiest time of my career… 30 years after I started!

What's the most outrageous thing that's happened to you whilst you’ve been DJ-ing?
I don’t think you want to know!

Can you please name 3 of your favourite things that you love about/being in the Big Smoke?
It’s the best place on earth when it’s sunny
The amazing people
The incredible sub cultures we have that all come together to make one great unique city

Can you also share 3 dislikes about the Big Smoke?
Small minded people’s negativity
So called club politics
And obviously TFL

What's your favourite restaurant to eat in London and what makes its so special?
A Wong. The most amazing chinese tasting menu you’ll ever experience.

My favourite club is…
Paradise Garage in New York. Simply legendary.

My favourite club night is…

If I could DJ with any celebrity (musical or non musical) it would be…
I’ve already worked with everyone I’ve wanted to

The song that reminds me most of London is…
‘Home’ by Julie McKnight

If I want a little peace and quiet when I’m in London I…
Take my gorgeous dog Tailor on walks around Pimlico’s parks

The best area of London is…
Pimlico, where I was born and live.

If I could change one thing about London…
The cycle lanes! Hahaha

One thing everyone should do in London is…
Come to Private Life… there’s always a good atmosphere and you’ll meet some fun people.
