Although it’s technically part of London, Bromley is pretty much a self-contained town complete with a large retail centre, a number of theatres and a cinema. Its insularity is partly due to poor transport links: there is no tube and daytime buses don’t travel to central London, ironic given that one of the reasons for its development was to accommodate people who worked in the city and wished to live close by. As a place to live Bromley is the epitome of middle class suburbia, therefore it’s somewhat surprising that David Bowie, Aleister Crowley and Siouxsie Sioux all lived here.
