The fact that Chadwell Heath is located near Romford, in the borough of Barking and Dagenham means it gets a fair bit of slack from those who like to make jokes about Essex; a lesser known fact is that Chadwell Heath was once home to Mary Wollstonecraft, the mother of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein. The area is residential, with most developments having appeared after World War I, therefore housing consists mainly of identikit bungalows or purpose built apartment blocks. The main shopping centre for the area is in Romford town centre, however one of the distinct advantages to living here is the overground line which has trains to Liverpool Street running every 15 minutes.
