East Croydon is the main business centre of Croydon. Whereas much of Croydon grew in Victorian times as middle class Londoners wished to escape to a leafier suburb, East Croydon’s skyline is filled with modern office developments as well as retail outlets; the Whitgift and Centrale shopping centres are both within close proximity of East Croydon station. There are of course residential streets too, however there is little in terms of green spaces and the area at times suffers from traffic congestion. Transport links are good however, with the overground, trams and numerous bus services; East Croydon station is the main transport hub, as well as being the busiest station in London outside zone 1.
