This north London suburb borders Highgate and Hampstead, therefore its location lends it a somewhat more cosmopolitan air than the other Finchleys, North, West and Central. Most notably, it is home to the Phoenix Cinema, which has existed for over 100 years and has a clear penchant for art movies. A relatively wealthy area, East Finchley has attractive Victorian terraces with bay windows as well as hugely expensive mansions along Bishops Avenue. Streets are mostly wide and lined with trees, and East Finchley successfully retains a peaceful villagey feel while being urban, something which no doubt attracts the Russian magnates to one of London’s richest avenues.
