At first glance, it seems there is little to recommend about Elmers End. South Norwood Country Park is located on the site of an old sewage farm which is thought to be contaminated with metals and therefore not suitable for housing to be erected. There is a large industrial estate opposite the main Tesco’s. There is also a large crematorium. On the plus side, housing is highly affordable, tram services are in operation and the overground connects to Charing Cross and Cannon Street. Despite its past, the park is popular with cyclist and boasts views towards the Docklands, as well as being an important conservation site.
