Situated to the west of the River Lee, Enfield Lock was historically an industrial area, home to government-owned Royal Small Arms Factory, the site of which is now a housing estate known as Enfield Island Village. The pretty cottages that sit along the lock make a change from the purpose built houses on the estate, additionally Enfield Lock is an important site for wildlife conservation, particularly around the King George V reservoir. Although it borders the countryside, access to the city is possible thanks to Turkey Street railway station, which serves Liverpool Street station, however most residents favour living here because they are away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
